BIFE-SIM is the fair addressed to the furniture industry which, in recent years, has begun to turn its attention more and more toward interior design and toward the idea of becoming one of the reference events of the industry in Romania.
But why is this change happening after more than 20 years of existence?
I think the story of interior design in Romania truly began to enter people's homes with shows like "Visuri la cheie", around 2014. Back then, for a great many Romanians, decorating a home began to mean more than tiles bought from the DIY store and furniture placed in a room. We started thinking about the atmosphere of home.
Then things grew organically.
Interest shifted toward design events, professionals started going more and more often to Milano Design Week, the most important international event dedicated to design, and we became consumers of quality content on social media.
Then came Deco Days, the first major event in Romania built around interior design, and the market began to move even faster. Brands started to understand that it is no longer enough to stay in the workshop or the showroom. You have to step out in front of people, build a stand, show what you do best, create an experience around your product.
Slowly, social media became the engine that began to tie the whole industry together.
Designers became more visible, brands started communicating better, the public became more educated and more curious, and interest grew.
This year, at BIFE-SIM 2026, the difference compared to the 2025 edition felt enormous to me. The aesthetic standard of the stands has grown a great deal. The way brands presented their products, the attention to styling, to light, to materials and to the visitor's experience made this edition feel completely different.
For me, it was a revelation.
The partnership with ARDI, the Romanian Association for Design and Innovation, also brings around the event a very relevant community of professionals in the field. Designers, architects, manufacturers and people who are truly building Romania's interior design industry end up in the same place and, very importantly, get to be heard.
And that's how the magic recipe begins to happen.
From a technical fair, addressed first and foremost to the furniture industry, BIFE-SIM is beginning to climb naturally onto interior designers' agendas. And I think this is exactly the right moment. Today, perhaps for the first time in Romania's history, it is easier than ever to work with a professional to decorate your home.
And if you are about to invest a very large sum in a project, the question becomes quite simple: why would you coordinate dozens of people on site, hundreds of decisions and thousands of details on your own, only to feel in the end that "it could have been better"?
When you work with an interior designer, the first thing you do is let them understand your world. What your routine at home looks like, how your family spends time together, what you like to do, what comfort means to you, what your mornings look like and, above all, what your vision of your dream home is.
From all this information the project begins to take shape. A good project is tailored to your life today, but also to all the experiences that brought you here.
At the same time, the designer manages the site teams, the suppliers, the decisions, the orders, the deliveries and all those things that very easily become overwhelming when you are decorating a home.
And you get to enjoy the process.
You can even enjoy the moment when you have built the home you always wanted. But perhaps the biggest advantage of working with a designer is that every choice starts to have a reason. Where it is worth investing more, where you can save, which product is worth choosing for ten years of use, which material will age beautifully, which piece deserves to become the focal point of the room.
And this is exactly where we arrive at BIFE-SIM.
Because, whether you are an interior designer or you are about to decorate your own home, it is important to know which brands deserve your attention.
Mozea
Mozea is the brand you keep thinking about for weeks, maybe even months, after seeing its pieces.
It stands out very clearly from what we usually encounter on the Romanian furniture market through its sculptural design, its woodworking and its almost obsessive attention to detail. The brand works in Transylvania with natural materials such as wood, stone and leather, and its pieces are designed precisely around the idea of timeless design.
And I think this is one of the most important things when we talk about premium furniture. When you invest in a solid wood table, a chair or a statement piece of furniture, you want to know that you won't look at it five years from now wondering which trend convinced you to buy it. At Mozea you feel that the pieces are made to stay in the family for decades.
And the comfort is on the same level as the design.
It's hard for me to write about Mozea without turning the paragraph into a little ode of appreciation, because, of all the Romanian furniture brands I have discovered in recent years, it is probably the one that comes closest to the design language I see every year at Milano Design Week.
Global Design Suceava
Global Design Suceava comes almost every time with a fresh breath.
I really like that they manage to communicate with different generations, but at the same time they have a very current energy, close to Gen Z. That is quite rare for a Romanian manufacturer with 25 years of experience in the furniture industry.
The company was founded in 2001 and produces furniture, MDF fronts, components and finishes for furniture in Suceava. Behind the creative side there is a lot of technology. Global Design has a library of over 10,000 fully customizable products and invests constantly in production and automation.
At BIFE-SIM 2026, their stand, built around the At Home Exhibition concept, was for me one of the best stands of the fair. But, beyond the atmosphere, here I really had many things to add to the list for future interior design projects.
The first thing was the curved MDF fronts. Global Design now produces fronts with several curvature radii, including R80, R182, R232 and R250, and certain variants can also be milled. For designers, that means much more freedom when we design curved kitchens, islands, living room furniture or spaces where we want to step out of the classic geometry of straight furniture.
Then my attention was caught by the fronts with inlays, the fronts with glossy MDF overlays, the very bold color combinations. I also liked the way they used plywood in a kitchen, a material we rarely associate with a refined solution for kitchen furniture.
But my favorite remains the MDF veneered with ALPI California Burl.
Nord Arin
A Romanian furniture manufacturer I fell in love with almost at first sight. There is something in their design that makes me think of Japanese aesthetics. Dark-colored wood, clean shapes, very well controlled proportions. And the woodworking is so well executed that your first reaction might be: "Are these really made in Romania?"
Yes.
Nord Arin is a Romanian family business that produces contemporary solid wood furniture, using especially Romanian oak from the Carpathians, together with materials such as brass, stone and glass. The brand combines traditional joinery techniques with technologized production.
And their story is very interesting. Nord Arin has been exporting furniture for decades. The company started exporting to the USA back in 1994, and its collections later reached markets in Australia and the Middle East as well. The brand's products only became more widely available for the Romanian market in recent years.
Pure Furniture
Pure Furniture is yet another example of furniture made in Romania that, paradoxically, you might come across more easily outside the country. The brand was founded in 2002 from the collaboration between furniture designers from the Netherlands and craftsmen from Romania, and the pieces are made mainly of solid wood, leather and textiles. Production is in Satu Mare county, and the collections reach residential and HoReCa projects on international markets.
At BIFE-SIM, what made me stop was the quality of the details. The finishes, the wood, the joints and the proportions of the pieces immediately convey the experience of a manufacturer that has worked for a long time for an international market.
It is a brand I would consider if I were looking for solid wood tables, wooden chairs, armchairs, sofas or premium furniture with vintage influences, but reinterpreted cleanly enough for a contemporary interior.
Talmabau
Talmabau made it onto my list for a very concrete reason: interior wooden staircases.
I have searched many times for manufacturers specialized in this type of work and it is one of those areas where you need someone who truly knows what they are doing. An interior wooden staircase seems simple until you start discussing structure, joints, thicknesses, steps, risers, railings, finish, the behavior of the wood and the meeting between the staircase and the rest of the materials in the house.
Transilvania Forest Production
Transilvania Forest Production is the brand I would think of when decorating a cabin. The factory is located in the Apuseni Mountains area, in Alba county, in a region with a very strong tradition in woodworking. The company produces wooden furniture and works with finishes such as staining, waxing, painting and antiquing.
For a modern cabin, a mountain holiday home, a chalet or a contemporary rustic interior, I would start the conversation with them.
Simex
Simex is the brand I would have in mind when a project calls for classic furniture. And I say this because this type of furniture requires a know-how very different from contemporary furniture with straight lines.
We are talking about wood carving, moldings, ornaments, classic proportions and finishes that must be executed impeccably. There are fewer and fewer manufacturers who preserve the experience needed for such pieces. If you are decorating a home in a classic, neoclassical or eclectic style, or an interior where you need solid wood furniture with traditional details, it is worth knowing that this expertise still exists in Romania.
VLAdiLA
VLAdiLA is probably the brand on this list that needs the fewest introductions. We see it constantly in interior design projects, on social media, in the homes of content creators and in interiors where wallpaper becomes the main character.
But the reason I include it here is another. You see a pattern and there is a good chance you'll realize it's VLAdiLA before you even see the logo.
For me, that means very good branding.
They managed to build a recognizable visual identity in a category that, before, was seen by many people as just "wallpaper". Today they have over a thousand listed models, very different collections and the possibility of producing custom wallpaper to the dimensions of a project.
I think VLAdiLA also played an important role in the way Romanian interior design became more visible and more daring.
And at BIFE-SIM it showed again. You see a buzz around a stand and you start to suspect that VLAdiLA is there. For the four days of the fair, their stand was probably one of the most Instagrammable places in Bucharest.
HANGarOund
HANGarOund won my selection through a very simple test.
I sat down.
It was so comfortable that I forgot to take the photo.
Maybe I don't have the perfect photographic proof for the article, but the relaxation stayed in my body, which I find a fairly convincing review.
HANGarOund produces handmade hanging armchairs in Romania, for indoor and outdoor, from durable materials and a product designed also for terraces and gardens.
10/10 in the comfort department.
And yes, I liked it so much that I would love to do a giveaway with them on Instagram, so that one of these hanging armchairs reaches someone who really deserves a little relaxation.
EWA Concept
The last brand in my selection is Engineering Wood Art Concept, EWA Concept.
If you need premium custom furniture made of solid wood, here begins a very interesting conversation.
At the stand I saw furniture made of solid walnut wood, continued with brass fronts, a kitchen clad in natural marble and tables in which the material is treated almost like a work of art. The company was founded in 2021 and produces furniture from a very wide variety of wood species, from oak, walnut and ash to maple, cherry and meranti.
But I also really liked the team.
They were extremely natural, passionate about what they do and the kind of people you want to start a project with. And that matters enormously when we talk about custom made furniture, where the relationship between designer, manufacturer and client can last for months.
My selection from BIFE-SIM 2026
These are the 10 brands that stayed with me most clearly after this year's edition.
BIFE-SIM 2026 also put many new names on my radar, and that seems to me one of the most beautiful parts of a design fair: you leave with new ideas, new contacts and brands you can't wait to get to know better.
If you want to discover Romanian and international interior design brands alongside me — products, materials, trends and places worth putting on your radar — you can also find me on Instagram, @arh.georgianagogolan, where I constantly share my selections from projects, fairs and design events.
See you there.
